Leonard Katz, MD

Dr. Leonard Katz is a board–certified gastroenterologist and professor emeritus in the Department of Medicine at the University at Buffalo School of Medicine where he also was adjunct professor in the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine. Between 1975 and 1983, he served as associate dean for Student Affairs and Curriculum at the University at Buffalo School of Medicine. During a distinguished career he trained many gastroenterologists practicing in the Western New York community, and he has maintained a deep interest in the understanding of irritable bowel syndrome and other functional gastrointestinal disorders. For 12 years, Dr. Katz was editor–in–chief of HMO Practice, a peer–reviewed medical journal devoted to the practice of efficient and evidence–based medicine. He is a consultant to several health care organizations and serves as medical director of the Buffalo site of the IBSOS.
